Family School at Faith Baptist
S.S.S. Study Week 7
Honesty vs. False Witness

What is it to be an honest person?
How often must you be honest in order to maintain your testimony of honesty?
Is honesty always the best policy?

Definition: Honest- The word Honest in the Bible often means more than just truthful, in fact the word honest is never described using the word truthful. Honest means morally and literally good, meet, well, honorable.

So knowing that an honest man is not just one who speaks truth but one who acts morally good and honorable let’s see what the Bible has to say about it.

Acts 6:3 An Honest report is vital to serving God
2nd Corinthians 13:7 A command to live honestly
1st Peter 2:11-12 The outreach of Honesty
Philippians 4:8 Honest things are things to dwell on

What do we fill our minds up with everyday? What kind of things do we dwell on or think about often? Are they things that are honest? Morally good and honorable? Or do they tend to be more vain than we realize? Does he like me? Does she like me? What will I eat for lunch? What should I wear to school? What new this or that do I want? IT DOESN’T MATTER, SOULS MATTER!

False Witness
As seen throughout history from the stoning of Stephen to modern day martyrs in China, Iran, and around the globe, when a Christian lives honestly and is therefore blameless even in the sight of men having done no wrong, the enemy is forced to turn to False Witnesses to make unfounded claims against the Christian.
Acts 6:8-15 There is often a fragment of truth twisted into every lie
Exodus 20:16 The 9th Commandment
Deuteronomy 19:15-21 The old way
Proverbs 6:16-19 Things God HATES
Proverbs 12:17, 14:5, 19:5, 19:9, 21:28
Proverbs 25:18 A false witness described

If a false witness is described as three different weapons, whose weapons are they?
The devil can use a false witness within a body of believers to destroy Gods work, dampen the believer’s moral, and deteriorate the Christians faith.

Mark 14:55-72
The need for witnesses who were false, The false witnesses problem, and The response to the false witness
The transformation from faithful servant to false witness
Matthew 15:17-20 The source
Why we bear false witness, a need for acceptance, a hatred for the accused, for our own vain glory.
