Week 7: Diligence
Diligence Defined: Steady application in business of any kind; constant effort to accomplish what is undertaken; exertion of body or mind without unnecessary delay or sloth; due attention; industry; assiduity.
What is the opposite of diligence?- Proverbs 21:25, Proverbs 12:24
Slothfulness, a great danger of a lack of diligence in your life is that you become idle, and eventually you feel entitled, "I don't want to work there" "I would never work fast food" etc, etc, Proverbs 26:16
Why the ant?
Proverbs 6:6
Ants work as a unit, ants don't ever quit, ants are always building on to their homes, ants rebuild when disaster strikes, ants don't stop to cry, complain, or take breaks, ants are diligent.
What does the bible say the Christian should be diligent in?
Christian growth 2nd Peter 1:1-10,
Bible study and Self Control Proverbs 4:20-23
Christian love and obeying Gods law John 15:9-12
Prayer Matthew 15:22-24, John 4:47-49
Proper diligence and it's reward- Galatians 6:6-9
Diligence can often be misplaced, people are diligent to attend to, work towards, and seek after vanity and worldly things. Others are diligent in attacking God and His people. We as Bible believing Christians ought to be diligent not to the flesh or world, but to the things of God. 1st Corinthians 2:14-16 the goal is verse 16, we must strive to and be diligent in having the mind of Christ.
When is it critically important to be more diligent than ever in the work of God?
When others try to stop it. Nehemiah 6:1-15
The enemies of Gods work will either try to,
Distract you. Vs 2,4
Intimidate you. Vs 5-7
Or entrap and accuse you. Vs 9-13
When the enemy attacks there are two things that will keep us working for God, keep us in a diligent state of mind for the cause of Christ, keep us from slacking off our duties and commission.
Vs 3 Realize the importance of the task at hand.
Vs 14 Let God deal with the enemy.
Memory Verse: 2nd Peter 1:8 "For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Homework: Study 2nd Peter 1:5-10 and write (minimum) one paragraph explaining in your own words what this passage means and why it is important.
