S.S.S. Study Biblical Apostleship Lesson 6

Family School at Faith Baptist Church
S.S.S. Study Biblical Apostleship
Week 6: Led by the Spirit

Note: In order to understand how, as Christians we are to follow God's Spirit I believe we must first understand who the Bible tells us the Holy Spirit is and what the Holy Spirit does and does not do.

What is the Holy Spirit? Genesis 1:26, Genesis 1:2, Matthew 3:16-17, Part of the Trinity, God.
What has the Holy Spirit done in scripture? Genesis 1:2, Judges 14:5-6, Romans 15:19, Ephesians 4:30, Acts 8:29, 39, 10:19-20, 11:11-18, 16:6-8, etc (there are many other places in scripture where Gods Spirit works, this is just a tiny list).
Who has the Spirit? 1st Corinthians 6:19-20, Acts 1:8
What does the Holy Spirit do?
John 15:26-27, 16:7-14, Comforts, testifies of Christ, Reproves the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement, Guide into truth (this is why unsaved people, and people who live in sin do not understand Gods word, John 17:17, 1st Corinthians 2:14). The Spirit also  Glorifies Christ. Helps us understand and preach Gods word 1st Corinthians 2:4, 10-14.
What isn't the Holy Spirit...
The Holy Spirit isn't physical, it cannot be seen, and it is not something you can lose, to lose the Spirit would be to lose your salvation (the Spirit seals us) which cannot happen.
What the Holy Spirit doesn't do...
The Holy Spirit does not make you spout nonsense, scream, jump around or force you to do something, it will never lead you to contradict Gods law, and you will never get "refilled", when/if you got saved God gave you His Spirit, period not half of it all of it.

Note: The first time the Spirit indwelled believers- Acts 2:1-4, This first act by Gods Holy Spirit is an amazing one, the entire purpose for this act of speaking in "other" (as in non Jewish) tongues was to preach the gospel to those who had not heard. Wherever people were saved and churches planted, the Holy Spirit's signs and wonders STOPPED the signs and wonders done were always done as a convincing factor to those who had NEVER heard Gods word before, but once His word was known the signs ceased and His word became the means by which the Holy Spirit would move on His people.

How do we follow the Holy Spirit?
I believe that every Christian at times struggles to follow the Holy Spirit, many say that they do not feel the Spirit leading them, why is this?
A carnal mind- Romans 8:4-8, we must train our minds to think spiritually, don't see strangers see souls, don't see bad situations see opportunities to minister, don't see temptation see a chance to choose Christ instead of sin.
An unwilling heart- John 6:66-68, If you are not willing to be sent then why would you expect directions to be given to you? These men missed out on much of Christ's ministry because they were unwilling to accept His teachings.
Sin- Ephesians 4:30-32, If you are saved then you have the Holy Spirit always with you () which means that every time you sin, you grieve the Spirit, the Spirit lives in the living room of your heart, if He tells you to do one thing and you do the opposite, it is not a happy home, no peace, no clear direction, no purpose, just a constant battle between you and the God that lives in you.
If we will be spiritually minded, have a willing heart, and fight sin instead of fighting the Spirit, God will guide us and we will be able to get the message loud and clear.
