Today I had the great honor of passing out John and Romans at the Chelsea, and Grass Lake summer Festivals, normally there's quite a group with me from our church and SSS but today there was a special circumstance that left me alone handing out scriptures. As always I thoroughly enjoyed offering scriptures on the streets and meeting people. Much to my surprise I actually met an independent Fundamental Baptist missionary and his wife today, which was a welcomed shock to me in the town of Chelsea, Mi. This story though is about marvelous mike, I left the Chelsea festival due to rain and lack of a crowd and went one town over to a sparsely populated (but always more receptive) Grass lake summer festival, I was through the crowd headed to he car with only a couple scriptures left when I noticed an older man sitting by himself off to the side. I approached in my usual way and offered him a scripture to which he asked what church I went to and what it meant to be saved. (I am not a fan of extremely long blogs myself so I will skip through the 15-20 minute dialog) In speaking with this man I found out that (according to him) he was a faithful church attender, prayed often, and has been to Africa dozens of times to "preach salvation". Sounds like a great guy right? He also explained to me how that no one can be "saved" by grace but all have to work out their own salvation till the day they die, he said that John the Baptist lost his faith and therefore is in Hell because he sent messengers to Christ from prison asking if Christ was the messiah, he explained that the Bible cannot get people saved, that only one denomination (the new apostolic churches) will go to heaven, that the bible is not Gods word, or perfect, (then he commended me for "sticking to the kjv" which he doesn't use) he told me how the book of tamus is Gods word and belongs in the bible (which he said isn't Gods word) and he passionately asserted that I was the kind of man that the scripture speaks of in Matthew 7:21-23
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Because I believe that I am saved and cannot lose my salvation, after taking him to many verses about eternal security, salvation by grace, and the purity of Gods word, he offered me a beer and laughed saying "I'll bet you think that's wrong of me too"
I summed up his beliefs for him and asked his name at which point he told me he was marvelous mike. My summary of his faith and sadly the faith of so many who stain* (oops i mean claim) the name of Christ is simple.
The verses and doctrines from the Bible that make sense to me, that I agree with, and like are considered "gods word" but everything else is not inspired, not important, or not true, the verses that I misuse* (oops I mean use) to "prove" my point couldn't be taken out of context by me, but rather you preacher are the one taking Gods word (which I only believe parts of) out of context. Don't you dare use the bible to show me my error or prove your point because that makes me feel dumb, I will pick and chose what I want out of the bible, I will take some and leave some, and don't you dare challenge my "Christian" life @@refer to my post "quotation mark Christians"@@@
Sadly this is not uncommon in today's America, we pervert the bible on a regular basis to fit our own fleshly desires and we call it "christian". What every true Bible believing Christian in America needs to do today is get off the couch and into the streets proclaiming the TRUTH from Gods word the King James Bible, and perhaps, just maybe people will run into less "marvelous mikes" and more True Christians.
