S.S.S. Sermon Notes: A Private Perfection

A private perfection

God's Word tells us in Hebrews 6:1-3

So there is a perfection to be had in our knowledge of Gods word.

2nd Timothy 3:16    All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17    That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

As important and crucially necessary a public profession is in the life of a believer, a continuous private perfection is equally important.

Perfect- Manifesting perfection (Manifesting- showing clearly or making evident)

So to be perfect is not necessarily to be sinless, we know from Romans 3:23,6:23 that no man is sinless. But according to the command in 2nd Timothy 3:17 we can become perfect

A simple definition for a perfect man could be one in whom no guile or sin is easily found (not due to subtlety, but cleanness).

Psalm 26 is the prayer of a man striving toward perfection.

When we believe we have aced a test we want it to be examined as quickly as possible, we desire to have it looked at.  If I could see the most private moments of your life, behind the closed doors and into your thoughts and imaginations would you be glad, or ashamed?

God gave that ability to peer into the minds of men to one man in the Bible.
Ezekiel 8:7-12

"Perfection in your Christian life does not come when you read more chapters of Gods word than the person next to you each day, it comes when you live up to your full potential for Christ."

Just last week we looked at all the good things that many of you do well...

living pure, which is good, Gods word says in 1st Corinthians 6:18-20
reading and studying your Bibles, which is good, Gods word says in 2nd Timothy 2:15
attending church and SSS, which is good, Gods word says in Hebrews 10:23-25
separating yourselves from the sin of this world, which is good, Gods word says in 2nd Corinthians 6:14-18

serving in the church, which is good, Gods word says in Galatians 5:13
loving the brethren, which is good, Gods word says in 1st Peter 3:8, 1st John 3:14
You SSS Teens are know for getting Gods word out through our Sow activities and that is wonderful! Gods word says in Mark 16:15

You may have thought having or building a public profession seemed hard last week with our examples of:

Give out Tracts at the drive thru, restaurant, stores, gas stations, door to door, sidewalks, school lockers, bathroom stalls, etc
Wearing Christian T-Shirts, Christian Bumper Stickers, Yard signs, etc
Stand on the street corner with a sign that reads "Trust Jesus Christ!"
Start a Bible study, sing, testify, witness, etc
Look for open doors in conversations.
Be BOLD

Having a public profession does not require a continual mastering of the things we must do, whereas striving toward a private perfection requires a daily self motivated effort to live up to your potential for God,
to not miss a single opportunity to witness, to serve, to sow Gods word, to love the brethren, to attend church and SSS, to live pure, to separate yourselves from sin and sinful people, to study Gods word, or to do anything you possibly can for the cause of Christ.

To end this lesson lets examine how the apostle Paul ended the book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 13:20-25

How can we witness?
How can we serve?
How can we Sow Gods word?
How can we love the brethren?
How can we attend?
How can we live pure?
How can we separate?
How can we study?
What isn't on this list? Prayer, How can we pray?
