S.S.S. Study Conduct of the Church week 6

S.S.S. Study The Conduct of the Church
Family School at Faith Baptist Church
Week 6: Edifying/Admonishing one another, ministering to the saints.

Edifying/Admonishing one another. Often confused words
Edify- To instruct and improve the mind in knowledge generally, and particularly in moral and religious knowledge, in faith and holiness.
Admonish-To warn or notify of a fault; to reprove with mildness, To counsel against wrong practices; to caution or advise.
Reprove-To charge with a fault to the face; to chide; to reprehend.
Rebuke-To chide; to reprove; to reprehend for a fault; to check by reproof.
To chasten; to punish; to afflict for correction.
To restrain; to calm.
Exhort-To incite by words or advice; to animate or urge by arguments to a good deed or to any laudable conduct or course of action.
Knowing the differences in these five words will greatly help us to understand how we are to behave towards each other, and the world.

Many times in churches like ours we are quick to Reprove, rebuke and exhort, as told in
2nd Timothy 2:2, but we often are only reactive to situations, and not proactive, which causes us to spend much more time rebuking and reproving, than Edifying and admonishing. We tend to wait until the situation comes to a climax before stepping in, wether bad toe rebuke, or good to exhort.

How often do you build up your brethren in spiritual matters? Paul was helped by many men, and made mention of them in his prayers and praises.  2nd Timothy 1:16-18, Romans 16:1-24.

Ministering to the saints.
Why: 1st John 3:14, Proverbs 18:19, John 13:1-17

1st Corinthians 16:15- Addicted to the ministry
Addict- To apply one's self habitually; to devote time and attention by customary or constant practice; sometimes in a good sense.
Minister- To give; to afford; to supply., not to be confused with "a minister" which would be an ambassador, delegate, etc. Romans 15:25.
When you cannot think of how to minister to the needs of the saints you can do one of three things, first, ignore the command and never minister to the saints, second, think of what someone could do to help you and do that for someone else, third, ask your parents, pastor, or youth pastor who in the church could use help and how. This is your homework for the week: try everyday to find a way to minister to a fellow believer and do it.

Memory Verse:
Hebrews 6:10    "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."
